What Is Inflammation?

Often times patients come in with an issue or condition that inflammation in some way contributes to. Inflammation occurs as a defense mechanism to protect your body from something deemed by your system as a foreign threat. An example of healthy inflammation is that which surrounds an infection so that the body may fight that infection. A healthy immune system will allow our body to take care of itself. However, inflammation can sometimes persist when there is no longer a need, and this can lead to further issues that will present themselves in physical and occasionally emotional ways.

How Chiropractic Care Can Help

Any physical or chemical stress in the body will create and stimulate inflammation. Removing physical stress off a nerve by manipulating a joint will help to alleviate inflammation and irritation of the nerve passing through a joint therefore reducing pain and improving range of motion and allowing the muscle and soft tissue to relax. Reducing chemical irritants such as parabens and surfactants to the body is beneficial, along with reducing stress as stress increases inflammatory hormones in the body.

What Is The Anti-Inflammatory Diet?

An anti-inflammatory diet includes foods such as vegetables, especially green and leafy vegetables, nuts, fatty fish, fruits, and olive oil. In general, to decrease inflammation, try to have a healthy diet with less processed foods. Talk to your primary physician about starting on a diet that will suit your needs best.
