Chiropractic for Pediatric Patients

It is not uncommon for pediatric patients to receive chiropractic treatment for a variety of conditions.

At the Chiropractic Spine Center, we often co-treat pediatric patients with their primary physician for subluxations, or misalignments, in the spine. A common condition that we provide treatment for in the office is scoliosis, which occurs more frequently in females than males. Scoliosis can develop in early childhood, but most frequently develops between ten and fifteen years old.

In addition to chiropractic adjustments, Chiropractic Spine Center provides postural counseling as well as physical therapy to strengthen the areas of concern.

The time in which we see results is much shorter in pediatric cases than with adult patients, and adjustments are much more gentle in children. Chiropractic can also be used to treat non-musculoskeletal health conditions and for prevention purposes in children. For example, chiropractic care can be used to support a child’s immune system, improve digestion, relieve constipation, and decrease reflux and stomach pain. Chiropractic can also improve sleep in children experiencing discomfort from spinal misalignments. Physical stress that children have can manifest in sleeplessness and even misbehavior.

Pediatric chiropractic care can even aid in issues presented at infancy, such as colic, trouble latching, or reflux.

Colic is often attributed to digestion issues, while trouble latching could be because of tight muscles in the neck and back. Chiropractic can relieve these issues through adjustments and manual therapy. Initial examinations are done on every patient prior to giving treatment to ensure patient safety and benefit from chiropractic.
